Preparing Camp Nahshii 07/11/2009
Wow, what a week. Sharnay and I just returned from Camp Nahshii, where Pastor Ron and the team from This Generation Ministries have been preparing the camp for teens. Talk about work! There is land to be cleared, outhouses to be dug, trees to be cut down, lumber to be milled, firewood to be made, gathering places to be cleared, access to the boats to be made, a kitchen to be made, and the list goes on and on. Add Comment Fishing with Grandpa Pratt 07/05/2009
![]() We have been treated with the presence of Sharnay's grandpa (Pastor Ron's dad), Ira Pratt. He came up for a weekend visit. We have been taking him around town and on the river. He preached during the Sunday morning service here. We went fishing and Sharnay God stuck in the mud, Josh fell in the river, and Grandpa laughed at both. ![]() When we went out to go fishing on the Porcupine river, many things went wrong. First the truck decided to die when we were backing the boat into the river. We had to figure out how to pull the truck's weight off of the gear so that we could get it into neutral so we could start it. That took about an hour. Then, while we were out on the river, the motor died. We found out (after about 45 minutes of fidgeting with it) that the motor has a fuel reservoir which needs to be filled with fuel before the motor can run. So, even it you get the fuel to the engine, it's not enough, you have to pump it in there. ![]() After we figured that out, we had a grand ol' time. We caught five Pike. But I think the experience was worth all of the trouble. It was good to just hang out with grandpa and have fun on the river. TGM Ministers in Fort Yukon 07/03/2009
![]() Wow, this week has gone by so fast. After a bit of struggle on the Yukon River, the TGM team arrived in Fort Yukon on Monday evening. What a blessing it was to have them ministering and serving here at Fort Yukon Assembly of God. They cleaned up the park next to the school in preparation for the 4th of July celebration, they did prayer walks and ministered to people throughout the community, they blessed me and my wife tremendously here at the house, and much more. ![]() While the team was here we advertised Camp Nahshii (upcoming Native youth camp) on the local radio station and around the community. There is allot of interest and people seam very excited about this camp. Pastor Ron has asked me and Sharnay to be a part of developing this camp as well as ministering there. We are more than excited at this awesome opportunity.
![]() Also, there is much need for finances to come in before camp starts on the 26th of this month. Please consider supporting us as we reach out to the Yukon Flats. To learn how to support us, click on the INVEST page at the top of the website. Pitka in Fort Yukon! 06/27/2009
![]() Well, we finally arrived in Fort Yukon after a long adventure. My little brother, Joshua, and I left Fairbanks at 12:15 am on Thursday, headed towards Circle with the Mighty Pitka behind us. We arrived in Circle exactly 4 hours later at 4:15 am. It only took us a half an hour to get the boat in the water and the gear loaded into it. ![]() Unfortunately, we had way too much weight to get us up on the water, but we knew that ahead of time. We had planned on floating down river, which would have put us in Fort Yukon in about 12-14 hours, but the wind was blowing us up river just about as fast as the current was taking us down. This made our average floating speed about .6 mph. We decided that we didn't want to float to Fort Yukon for 90 hours, so we fired up the motor and headed down. We only got up to about 10 mph average, so the 90 mile trip took a little over 8 hours. We were home before 1:30 pm. Now, we are waiting as Pastor Ron and the TGM team head towards Fort Yukon so we can meet up and go from there. Keep us in your prayers, and please consider financially supporting our efforts through the "DONATE" button on the Invest page. Hitting the River! 06/24/2009
![]() Well, in an amazing turn of events, we are hitting the river in the Mighty Pitka (A boat donated to the ministry by Sam Pitka). It is equipped with a brand new motor and it's ready to ride once again. We are so excited about this amazing opportunity! God is working everything to His good and He is using us in the process! Please be in prayer for us as we minister up and down the Yukon River this Summer. Be praying for Camp Nahshii (www.yukonflatscamp.org). And be praying for This Generation Ministries as we work together to bring the life changing gospel into the villages of Alaska. ![]() We are still in need of funds to buy fuel, food, and materials for Camp Nahshii and the Yukon River trip. Please consider joining us in this work as we endevour to reach out to the unreached. Summer fun 06/09/2009
Well, Creation Camp is over. It was great, we had over 30 kids every day (Which is pretty amazing considering it was just Sharnay and myself running it). The kids planted veggies, made crafts, played games, and ate some wonderful dinners (Prepared by me, of course). Their plants are already a few inches tall and we have kids coming by to check out how they are growing. Creation Camp Begins 06/01/2009
Today was the first day of Creation Camp here in Fort Yukon. It was great. We had over 30 kids show up! They planted their plants, made their custom signs to go over their plants, played games, ate Cheese Burgers, and learned about how God's creation declares His Majesty. All-in-all, good day. Vacation Over 05/31/2009
![]() Well, our vacation is over. We are so glad to be home. Have you ever been on a vacation that you felt like you needed a vacation from? Ya, it was kinda like that. We had fun, but we missed our garden, our church, our pets, our house, our bed, etc. Everything is so nice here in Fort Yukon. The plants are all green, the sun is out, the snow is gone, and boats are once again running the Mighty Yukon. Vacation 05-20-09 05/20/2009
Still going great! We had a rather lazy day today, just sitting around James and Trista's house. We went down to the local burger place and got a good ol' American Deluxe Cheeseburger, fries, and a root bear float. We sat outside in the beautiful weather and ate. We went for a short walk (too hot for a long one) and watched some T.V. Vacation 05/17/2009
![]() Well, we are finally in Wisconsin. We drove 6 hours to Anchorage, 3 hours to visit Ross in Seward, 3 hours back to Anchorage, flew 6.5 hours to Minneapolis - St. Paul, 2 hour layover, 2 hours to Chicago, rented a car, drove 5 hours to Columbus (Wisconsin. We got lost in Chicago and Madison), and then slept hard at my brother's house. Today is our 1 year anniversary. We went to the zoo with James and Trista. We are actually going to a water park next week for our anniversary and for Sharnay's 24th B-Day. | Author:
